SC Stay & SC UpLift give Pandemic Rent and Mortgage assistance

SC Uplift Community Outreach receives grant for housing assistance

SC Stay program has awarded SC UpLift $300,000 to help the residents of Abbeville, Edgefield, and McCormick.  These funds will be used for rental and mortgage assistance for individuals living in these specific counties.

SC UpLift’s goal is to improve the communities of South Carolina by ensuring that the individuals and families in this state have safe, secure, and affordable housing.

Significant accomplishments of SC UpLift include:

  • Earning the 1st Gold Certified Universal Living Home for the State of South Carolina
  • Supporting the Tiny Home Project for the Town of Summerton and AARP
  • Building a new home in the Bluff Estates community
  • Completing rehabs within multiple communities around Columbia with the addition of Telehealth services and Aging in Place amenities
  • Distributing more than 4,000 PPE face masks to people in the community, in partnership with Classic Ford Lincoln of Columbia, a Mills Automotive Group.

Established 12 years ago in February 2008, SC UpLift Community Outreach is 501C-3 nonprofit corporation tax-exempt community housing development organization in South Carolina. Through the vision of Kevin and Tammy Wimberly, SC UpLift mission is to help individuals and families improve their quality of life through the provision of safe, secure, and affordable housing and economic security. We aim to serve as a vehicle through which residents and businesses can work together to solve problems and improve life in their communities.

SC Stay is a statewide initiative, introduced by the SC State Housing Finance and Development Authority, to provide rental and mortgage assistance to eligible low-income households experiencing financial hardship due to the economic impact of COVID-19.  The will help prevent evictions and foreclosures to promote housing stability during the ongoing pandemic.  SC Stay funding is made possible by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
